I have two different themes to choose from. The first - Immersion/consumed - is closely linked to my current practical work in which I am using a series of underwater photos to inspire a set of paintings describing abstracted form. The projects intial brief was very broad - tension between abstraction and figuration. I wanted to capture the figure immersed in water in order to capture realistic elements and difracted limbs. I have been losely translating these images into paint describing the water in colourful abstractions making it unclear whether the figure is emerging from or being consumed by the substance its immersed in.

The artists I have chosen (so far) for this concept/exhibition can be very simply split into two groups - those that detail figures physically immersed in a medium and - those that portray individuals consumed by an emotion but there are crossovers between these two groups which would bring the whole thing together. Here are some of the artists I have chosen so far...

Angela Farleigh
These paintings depict figures swimming (or drowning) in colourful seas of abstraction which are representative of the highly intimate, passionate act the figures are engaged in.

Juno Doran
Really intimate painting of her lover. All the focus is on him, nothing else matters.

Gerhard Richter
This figure (Jackie Kennedy) seems to be consummed by grief.

Kent Williams
Painting evoke emotional tones and symbolic, dream like  narratives.
